Commercial & Industrial Solar Thermal Systems

S.O.L.I.D. USA, Inc. (SOLID USA) is an Arizona-based company incorporated in 2005. We are an affiliate of S.O.L.I.D., GmbH of Austria (SOLID Austria), a fourteen year old company with hundreds of projects throughout Europe using proprietary large solar thermal systems for heating, air conditioning, domestic hot water, pool heating, and industrial heating requirements. These projects include five of the seven largest solar projects installed worldwide in the last five years.
The technology has won numerous environmental awards over the years.

SOLID Austria is currently expanding further into Europe, into China, and into the U.S. SOLID USA is an affiliate of and U.S. licensee for the SOLID technology.

SOLID USA in the process of developing its first U.S. projects, the first to be installed in Arizona in February 2006 in conjunction with Arizona Public Service.

The Technology

The collectors to be used are today’s state of the art, using highly selective coating on the absorber to achieve an optimised operation of the total system. The applied solar collector is produced in Austria by the company ökoTech, a SOLID affiliate, and has been awarded the “Austrian Environmental Award” and other European environmental awards.

The collectors are approximately 112 square feet in size, much larger than traditional flat-plate collectors. This size allows for increased efficiency for hot water temperatures of over 200 degrees, and for application of the collectors to commercial-scale and industrial needs.

Our control unit includes a telemonitoring system developed by Dr. Holter for both solar and biomass projects. It is being used in dozens of facilities all over Europe. Telemonitoring assists with optimization of the facilities, leading to additional solar output and increased efficiency of at least 25%, while virtually eliminating operational problems.
We believe that our technology will be of great benefit in the United States, where the solar radiation is intense and the summers are hot for most of the country. The SOLID technology utilizes the power of the sun to provide energy and is one of the first companies to use that energy to provide air conditioning, a requirement that often creates peak problems for utilities in the summer. The systems allow for internal storage, allowing the energy to be provided on a firm basis.

This newly emerging segment of the industry will help the US further utilize its great solar resource. In addition, this direct and efficient use of the sun allows energy to be delivered very close to current market rates.
